Understanding Migraines

Migraines are characterized by intense, throbbing pain on one side
of the head by the activation of nerve fibers within the blood vessels
of your brain.1, often accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light, noise,
and odors. These attacks can last from 4 to 72 hours if untreated.

The Major Types of Migraine

The Major Types

of Migraine

Migraine With Aura

Includes short-lived episodes with visual or sensory symptoms before the headache. It's like a warning sign before the storm. For example, a person may see flashes of light or wavy lines, or they may experience tingling or numbness in the face or hands.

Chronic Migraine

Occurs 15+ days a month, lasting over three months, with at least eight days having migraine features.

Migraine Without Aura

Recurring headaches lasting 4-72 hours, usually on one side, with pounding intensity. Movement worsens it, and you might feel nauseous, sensitive to light and sound.

Prodrome

Aura

Headache

Postdrome

Phases Of Migraine

Phases Of Migraine

Early signals like “Mood changes, Fatigue, cravings, Neck stiffness, Increased thirst and urination, Yawning, Concentration problems, Sensitivity to light and sound, Digestive issues, Frequent urination”.

Around 77% of patients suffer prodromic symptoms for up to 24 to 48 hours before headache onset.

Visual or sensory disturbances that precede the headache.

Migraine headaches typically occur on one side, with a pulsating or throbbing sensation that intensifies in the initial hours, and the pain can last for hours to days.

After a migraine headache, the postdrome phase sets in.

You may experience lingering pain in the same location as the previous headache.
